Cleaning Rod Iron

Scrub the wrought iron with a dry wire brush. Use a mild mixture of water and dish soap to clean all surfaces. If you leave them on then the part under them will not get cleaned and you will not finish the job correctly. Start by scrubbing the rust lightly with a wire brush.

Routine cleaning of wrought iron is really not much different than cleaning any household surface. Now use a brush or cloth to clean your iron door thoroughly. If there are rust stains but no flakes dip a very fine steel wool pad into kerosene and brush out the stains. A teaspoon of the soap mixed with the water should suffice.

Doing any of these things can ruin its natural seasoning. If your wrought iron outdoor chairs have any cushions on it then you will have to remove them and clean them separately. You may use any spray bottle or bucket to fill with soap water. Go over the wrought iron with a dry paintbrush to remove any tiny rust flakes or dirt.

Dip a clean sponge or cloth into your reserved bucket of water. First fill your bucket with about a gallon of hot water and then mix it with about cup of dishwashing detergent. Use dishwashing soap after cleaning off the dirt you will need to wash your wrought iron door using dishwashing soap water. Soak a towel in the solution ring it out and then use it to scrub down your wrought iron balusters and railing.

The most important thing to know about cleaning cast iron skillets meaning non enameled is that you should not use soap soak it in water overnight or put it in the dishwasher. Rinse the wrought iron.
